Training Commands: Lesson # 4 - "Crate" or "Bed"

The Basic Commands: and How to Use Them!

Training Commands: Lesson # 4 - "Crate" or "Bed"

Crate-

Remember, the crate is great.

When I administer the command, I prefer to use the word “bed.”

When I think of a bed, I think of a nice relaxing enjoyable place to be.

Same goes for my dog, I’m not sending them to jail, and I am putting them in a place that will benefit them.

When first attempting to get your dog into the crate place food, toys, and blankets in the crate. A Cozy Comforter Crate Pad is a great way to get your dog into their bed as they love the extra padding.

As soon as the dog steps into the crate, verbal praise your dog by saying, “good crate (insert dogs name here.)

We are positively reinforcing the words good, crate, and name of dog.

After many repetitions and practice your dog will begin to walk into the crate by themselves; always praise for such behavior.

As the pup/dog gets used to the crate, vary the lengths of time you make them stay in the crate. If you live in a warm climate make sure you have a Cooling Fan for Crates and Cages to prevent over heating.

In order to master the command you must have your dog go to its crate and lie down, and not move until told.

I would not suggest using a chain collar if the dog will not comply.

Dog psychologists and trainers have mixed opinions on this, but I want the crate to be the best place one earth, so I choose to use other forms of corrections and reinforcement.
