What should I feed my puppy or dog?

What do I feed My Dog?
There are several different options when it comes to feeding your dog.

Each option has its advantages and disadvantages.

If you get your dog from a breeder it is always a good idea to ask what type of food they feed their dogs.

One thing that is very important when choosing a type of food for your dog is what I call the transition period.

You will never want to start a puppy or new dog on a new food without weaning them off their old food.

For example, if you want to get your dog on Eukanuba(reg) Puppy Small Breed Formula Food from Purina you will want to make the first feeding ¾ Purina ¼ Eukanuba(reg) Puppy Small Breed Formula Food.

The day switch it to ½ Purina ½ Eukanuba(reg) Puppy Small Breed Formula Food.

Continue this process until your dog has adjusted to the new food.

A sudden change in dog food can result in a range of digestive irritabilities such as loose stool.

Here are a few options when it comes to feeding your dog.

1) All Natural Diet-

Some argue that the raw diet or all natural diet is the best selection for raising the healthiest and strongest pup.

A typical natural diet plan would consist of things such as meats, eggs, chicken, and foods with lots of protein to power your dog.

I am not saying that you should not consider an all natural diet but it is important to look at the practicality of an all natural diet.

The all natural diet is going to end up costing a lot more money in the long run.

You will also need to make frequent trips to the store in order to keep your dog food fresh.

Also, there will be more time needed to prepare the food and preparation can become rather time consuming. Your best alternative is to select an all natural treat such as All Natural Baa Baa Q's in coordination with either dry or canned food to produce a healthy canine.

There are recently added options of natural DRY and Canned dog food to get the natural diet as well as the convenience of packaged dog food.

2) Wet or Canned Food-

Can food is exactly as it sounds the wet dog food that you will find in the pet stores.

Canned food tends to be a bit more pricey and bulky, but will work.

It will save you the time of preparing the natural diet, and all you will need is a can opener. Natural Choice Ultra Puppy Food is a fantastic canned food that is rich in vitamins and minerals

There are many different flavors and brands available. You can find very competitive rates online.

Canned food can work by itself or in coordination with a dry food.

3) Dry Food-

This is the big bags of food that you see online at the pet stores.

This is your safest, easiest, most economical option.

It helps to purchase the bags in large quantities as the price is usually cheaper.

I keep my dry dog food in a giant bin, and just scoop it right into the stainless bowl.

Remember no plastic, for it will breed unwanted bacteria.

The dry foods are separated into three categories, puppy, adult, and mature.

Furthermore, they are separated into categories by weight range, small, medium, and large breeds.

Make sure you math your dog with the appropriate formula of food.

All of this information can easily be found online by the supplier.

Feed your dog dry food two times a day, once in the morning and once in the early evening.

Amount will vary on breed size and age.

4) Table Scraps-

You want to avoid feeding your dog any type of table scraps.

Large amounts of table scraps will result in an unhealthy and obese dog.

Not only will it create health problems for your dog, it will cause behavioral issues later down the road. Choosing a healthy dog treat such as Beefeaters Freeze-Dried Liver Treats provides a much better alternative.

Every time the family comes over for Thanksgiving, you don’t want your dog to be bothering every member of the family begging for a turkey leg.

Avoid table scraps.

What you feed your dog is vital to the health and weight of your dog.

You want to maintain a slim and healthy figure.

Some dogs such as Beagles and Labradors are prone to high food drives and will be harder to work with than other breeds.

Make sure your dog likes what they are eating.

Outside of this guide, pet stores, vets, and friends are great resources.
